The Ghost MV1 and Firefly 2 are two portable vaporizers with convection heaters and on-demand puffs.

Thus, one can consider that they are direct competitors and wonder which of the two is the best.

This is what we will determine in this article, comparing them point by point!

Ghost MV1 vs Firefly 2: The Steam Rendering

The flavour rendering of the Ghost MV1 vaporizer is one of the best you can find, with a really fresh and sweet steam…

This is partly due to its ceramic steam cooling system, but also to the silicone sheath in which the plant bowl is placed.

In fact, silicone is an excellent thermal insulator (it does not melt below 300oC) and effectively fights against heat inertia.

In addition, the convection heating system is very well thought out and offers great performance!

As for the Firefly 2, the rendering is just as incredible.

The steam it delivers is also fresh and sweet with exceptional flavours…

The quality of materials in contact with plants and steam is no stranger.

Indeed, the steam cooling system as well as the vaporization chamber are made of glass and ensure an optimum respect for flavour and cooling.

The Firefly 2 is also a convection heater.

MV1 vs FF2: Extraction efficiency

As we said above, the Ghost MV1 as well as the Firefly 2 are convection heaters.

Convection implies that the extraction of the active ingredients is done by passing a flow of warm air through the plant, without the latter being in contact with the heating element.

In the event that the plant is in direct contact with the heating element, we would talk about conduction heating.

Although there is well-made conduction and poorly done convection, most users report better performance with convection heating.

The problem is that it is often more energy-intensive, which can pose on portable devices whose autonomy is not unlimited…

But the Ghost MV1 and The Firefly 2 take up the challenge brilliantly and give us the perfect steam while displaying proper range, we'll come back to that later.

In the case of MV1, the complete extraction of the active ingredients of the plant bowl can be done very quickly, in 3 or 2 incredibly dense and tasty puffs, but it is of course possible to take your time.

It is usually not necessary to tont the plants, the extraction is homogeneous.

As for the FF2, the extraction is less homogeneous and we will have toss the plants every 2 or 3 puffs depending on the heating power we will use…

In addition, it will be more difficult to extract all the active ingredients of the plants in only 2 puffs while avoiding subcombustion as with the Ghost.

However, with a little technique, it is possible to master the FF2 to obtain results similar to those of the MV1.

Ghost MV1 vs Firefly 2: Temperature control and panel

The Ghost MV1 offers a very reasonable temperature range (140-220oC) to vaporize all types of plants, and thus to practice herbal medicine in the broadest sense of the word.

It is possible to choose between the six pre-programmed temperatures of the device (3 for plants and 3 for concentrates) or to use the android connected app to modify them.

On the other hand, it is not possible to change the heating temperature of the FF2 without going through the phone and the application, which allows you to heat between 105 and 255 degrees Celsius in 5oC in increments.

The firefly 2's high heating temperatures are reserved for concentrates and not for plants whose combustion threshold starts at 231oC.

Thus, it is possible to get big puffs very tasty and super powerful with your favorite extraction, a bit like with a Rig/Dabber in low temp, which the Ghost MV1 will not do.

Apple has removed vape-related applications from its platforms, so applications for the MV1 and FF2 are currently only available on Android.

MV1 vs FF2: Autonomy

The Ghost's 2600 Mah removable battery offers a reasonable battery life of about 100 puffs per charge.

Rest assured, the huge puffs that ghost can produce will not leave you left behind and this autonomy therefore offers you the possibility to vaporize several doses of plants.

In addition, this battery being removable you double your battery life by equipping yourself with a second battery optional!

On the other hand, it recharges very, very slowly, ie in eight hours which is probably a record (in the wrong sense of the word).

There is a fast charger to recharge it in three hours, but by dint of accumulating the options the budget of the Ghost quickly become huge …

As for the Firefly 2, its removable 770 Mah battery also offers about 100 puffs per charge.

Nevertheless, it is much faster to recharge, in less than an hour, which is second to none with the Ghost!

In addition, the REcharging of the FF2 is done with an induction charger called "dock" on which the vaporizer remains.

Thus, it is possible to let the Firefly 2 load between each puff/session of vaporization, it remains fully loaded permanently and ready to go out!

Ghost MV1 VS Firefly 2: Ergonomics

The grip of the Ghost MV1 is excellent (access to the fire button with the thumb is well thought out), and its look is well accomplished.

Indeed, its design makes it look like a space shuttle, the MV1 is a definitely futuristic object!

Nevertheless, its weight of 350g is more suitable for bags and bags than pockets.

For the time being, the Ghost will delight bodybuilding enthusiasts, but not really others!

Also beware of its fragility, because some parts can be very vulnerable, such as the glass mouthpiece and the cooling part of the ceramic steam…

The FF2, when it is much smaller, lighter (140g!) and remains rather robust despite its many glass elements…

Indeed, mine has already fallen several times to the ground but has no after-effects!

Its grip is on the other hand a little less comfortable than that of the MV1 …

In terms of design, the Firefly 2 is sober and classy, displaying a claw similar to that of the Apple manufacturer.

In summary

It's true that in theory, the Ghost MV1 and the Firefly 2 can offer about the same use, with their on-demand puffs and 100% convection heating system.

But in practice, we can see that these are two really different vaporizers.

Already, at ergonomic level the Ghost weighs more than twice the weight of the Firefly 2 for a range roughly equivalent …

And speaking of autonomy, let's highlight the fact that the FF2 recharges in a month of one hour, whereas it takes eight for the MV1!

But above all, the negative with the Ghost is its capricious side.

Indeed, it really lacks reliability and produces steam to the small happiness luck …

If you read my MV1 test, you'll see why!

In short, I much prefer the Firefly 2 for its ergonomics and reliability, its steam rendering is really sublime and it's a real pleasure to use.
